Semi-Final night tonight and in the battle of the recent champions David Graham overpowered Robert Binne and in the other semi-final John Williamson beat Colin Golder to make his second appearance in the final.
Jaci Moriarty continues to prove that last year's win was no flash in the pan by winning her semi-final with the irrepressible Pat Meikle in a very close (and high quality) Ladies Championship match that went to the 18th where a half was just enough to give her a shot at back to back championships in Saturday's final where she will meet either Diane Moncrieff or Jacqui McIntosh.
Sheila Munro and Jane Maclean will play in the Ladies Bronze Championship Final. James Markey and Robert Sutherland will play the Gents B Section Final and Tony Cairns and Mark Jennings will contest the Gents C Section Final,
Hope to see as many members down at the club on Saturday to support all the finalists and enjoy the after-golf buffet and disco.
Monday 4th August 2014
The Ladies joined the Championship fray tonight and there were some very close matches indeed. First up defending Champion Jaci Moriarty and 9-times Champion, Linda Bain were all square after Linda leveled the match at the 17th. Some top quality golf was played as most holes were won with pars or birdies. Never more than a hole between them and unfortunately for Linda it was a three-putt (her only one of the evening) the allowed Jaci, who played the round of her life, to hold her nerve and win the match.
Jaci now plays Pat Meikle in Wednesday's semi-final. Pat, who is also playing some of her best ever golf at the moment, went the extra hole with Cathy Jennings in another fine match that came to a disappointing end as Cathy lost a ball up the first. Pat's is having an inspiring year and hopefully won't mind me pointing out that she is the oldest qualifier by 15 years, inspirational indeed.
Jacqui McIntosh was two-down at one stage to Mandy McBain but kept plugging away to win at the 17th. Jacqui will now play the 2011 Champion, Diane Moncrieff who was run all the way in another tough match by Eileen Gillespie, who won the last of her trio of Championships in 2005 (despite a number of appearances in the final since). Diane held on to get the half needed at the 18th to secure another semi-final place.
Well done also to the Bronze Championship match-winners tonight who also made it through to the Semi-finals. Sheila Munro, Eileen Stevenson, Sandra Craig and Jane Maclean. Best of luck on Wednesday.
