LADIES CHAMPIONSHIPS
2009

8th August
Great to see Finals Day went ahead on schedule and was very well attended today.
Linda Bain maintained her terrific form to win a seventh title.
Despite stiff opposition from regular finalist and three times Champion Eileen Gillespie, Linda saw out the match with a fine approach shot at the 16th and will now represent Lochend again in the Lothians Champion of Champions tournament and her current form indicates she could go further than ever.
The Bronze Championship final went one hole further as new member Yvonne Murdoch has well and truly arrived with a fine win over Eunice Reid.
More details and Photos from the day will appear here shortly.

It's Linda and Eileen in the Final again
Linda Bain and Eileen Gillespie will continue their run of Championship Final meetings on Saturday after both winning through their Semi-finals tonight.
Linda's form has put her in a league of here own this year and this continued with 4 & 3 semi-final win over Mandy McBain.
In the other semi-final Eileen proved once again that even when she's been missing allot of golf, she can still come back and deliver with a fine win over Diane Moncreiff who had been on such a fine run recently.

In the Bronze Championship, Eunice Reid will meet Yvonne Murdoch in Saturdays final. Eunice beat top qualifier Fiona Findlay at the 18th and Yvonne Murdoch may have been the last placed qualifier but she has certainly enjoyed the matchplay stages, making the final after tonight's win over Linda Hutchinson.
Hope to see you all again on Saturday to support the finalists and enjoy the after-golf festivities.

4th August
The Ladies Championship began tonight and defending Champion Linda Bain is still on top form and proved too strong on the night for Violet Paterson. Linda will now play Mandy McBain who beat Pat Meikle 3 & 2. Eileen Gillespie withstood a great effort from Jaci Moriarty to win 2 and 1 and will now meet Diane Moncrieff, who had a convincing win over Myra Law. The Eileen and Diane semi-final is a repeat of the 2004 final when Eileen won the second of her three-in-a-row titles.
In the Bronze Championship, top qualifier, Fiona Findlay kicked-off with a convincing win over Carole Owen and will now meet Eunice Reid in the semi-final after Eunice reversed last weeks Summer Matchplay result were she lost to Joan, tonight it was Eunice's turn to win at the 18th.
The other semi-final will be between Linda Hutchinson who won her tie with Margaret Richards 4 & 3 and Yvonne Murdoch who followed up Saturday';s Medal win with an 18th hole victory over Thelma Dey.

25th July

After todays final qualifier, the draw for the Ladies Championship is now complete. Linda Bain continued to prove her dominance by winning both the qualifying medals and it will certainly take something special to halt her progress to a 7th Lochend Championship. However there are ladies who are more than capable of providing an upset on the night.
Linda's first round opponent is Violet Paterson, who has been unlucky not to win more medals recently having been runner-up a few times thanks to a couple of unlucky holes.

Next up Pat Meikle plays Mandy McBain. Having both qualified on the same score this should be a close match. Pat has also been narrowly out of the prizes recent with some very good rounds (runner-up today with a 69) and also achieving her best ever handicap. Mandy has also consistently broke 70 around Lochend to win medals and the Faye Allanach trophy as well as Gogarburn Ladies Open and a good showing in the Midlothian B Championships

In the bottom half of the draw Jaci Moriarty takes on Eileen Gillespie. Jaci also gave a good account of herself at the Midlothian Championship and has also shot a number of low rounds this year gaining a third place in the qualifying order. Three times Champion Eileen Gillespie only had one qualifying round but managed to get into 6th place.

The line-up is complete with the match between Myra Law and Diane Moncrieff.
Myra, an ever-present in these Championships always appears to raise her game for the matchplay event as her many semi-final and final appearances will testify. Diane Moncreiff is certainly on form at the moment with two runner-up spots at Duddingston and Broomieknowe Ladies open, a couple of medal wins at lochend, the Joyce Anderson trophy and her lowest ever handicap, she certainly merits her second placed qualifying score.

Good luck to all the qualifyers in both championships, I'll be following Monday nights action from afar but rest assured my on-course buddy's will keep me informed.
